De Oppresso Liber Law has been helping clients with catastrophic personal injury cases and serious crimes for more than 30 years. As a team and as individuals, our attorneys dedicate time and effort to increasing your chances for a fair outcome.

Personal Injury/Wrongful Death

In 1988, as a brand new attorney, Damian Horne walked into a quick-stop in his home town of Santa Fe, New Mexico. Behind the counter a familiar clerk appeared distraught and anxious and Damian asked what was upsetting her. Tearfully, she indicated her husband had been “T-Boned” on his motorcycle and had extensive injuries…then she asked: “You’re a lawyer, aren’t you?”
That initial case set an unrelenting standard of individual care, and thirty-three years later, De Oppresso Liber Law is still helping injured clients achieve the results they deserve. First and foremost, we are not a Personal Injury Mill. Our devotion to those with catastrophic injuries goes far beyond the mere business we have chosen. Furthermore, Bill is married to a physician, Dr. Monica Snowden and is reminded at home and the office that a client is also a patient. At De Oppresso Liber Law, client care never concludes with office hours. That is why, if you chose us, you will have Damian or Bill’s cell number. Your case will never be given to staff and all communication lost until it is time to endorse a check. Your Personal Injury will mean you have Personal Representation. And, yes. Damian still rides. In fact, as the Captain of Team Motorcycle and the Winner of 1997 “Peace Frog Road Rally” (Richmond, Virginia to Key West, Florida to Fairbanks. Alaska) Damian remains devoted to those who ride, but to all those who suffer from the negligence of others.

Criminal Defense

Our goal is to bring almost 55 years of combined courtroom advocacy and litigation to achieve success with our clients as teammates!! We have handled the most serious matters as both Defense Attorneys and Prosecutors. Bill and Damian have not only be recognized for their work as Special Prosecutors for the District Attorney – taking on everything from First Degree Homicide to Animal Cruelty – but defended and won acquittals or dismissals for Capital Murder, First Degree Murder and Serious Felonies in multiple jurisdictions. With a team approach, we do not believe in “hopeless.” Throughout the legal process, clients are provided with experienced advice on pretrial procedures, hearings, and strategy, as well as the anticipated outcomes. While negotiating resolutions can be advantageous to our clients, we are never afraid to take the fight into the courtroom. As such, we stress the importance of effective communication with those we have the honor to represent. The Attorneys at De Oppresso Liber Law do not “sign up” clients and merely “take the settlement” or “go for the easy plea.” We emphasize and encourage frequent communication with our clients, so that together, clients know the options and can formulate appropriate strategy to get the absolute best results possible.

Military Law

Few Attorneys have the experience and devotion of Major (Retired) Damian Horne. Having begun his military career in 1978 as an Infantry and, later, a Special Forces Officer, Damian left the active service of Our Country to go to Law School at the College of William and Mary. He remained in the Active Reserves until 1987. After a successful career as a Trial Attorney in both Private and Government practice, Damian again heard the Call of Duty after 9/11. Enlisting as Sergeant in the New Mexico National Guard, he was slotted as Senior Sniper, but eventually found a home with 5th Battalion 19th Special Forces in the Colorado National Guard. After deploying as a Weapons Sergeant with 5th Group during the Iraqi Surge, Damian returned home where he was recommissioned in the Staff Judge Advocate General Corps. Following an assignment as Senior Defense Counsel for the 891st Trial Defense Services, Damian again volunteered for deployment with his beloved Special Forces to Afghanistan. Returning stateside in 2014, his extensive legal and trial experience landed him with the Office of Military Commissions representing “Big Five” terrorists in Guantanamo Bay. Initially assigned to the Team representing Khalid Sheik Mohammed and later to Abdul al Nashiri, Damian left active duty and returned home where he continued serving as a Staff Judge Advocate for Colorado National Guard Trial Defense Services and later as Judge Advocate General for Special Operations Detachment (Korea). Although retired, Damian’s passion remains representing the Soldier…as well as Defending Those Who Defend Us.
